Covie lies on the coastal plain of the Southern Cape
some 30 km east of Plettenberg bay. |
VisionIt is the desire and vision of the Covie community to develop Covie into a sustainable rural settlement where the Covie community is united in a wish to preserve the character and beauty of Covie including the fynbos, views, forests and possibly even the gravel roads. |
Community InvolvementIt is of crucial importance to the success of this project that the project is driven by the community. The community must own this project and all participants must have buy in from the outset. It is the desire of the community to determine their own future and have a hand in developing a sustainable industry in Covie. |
SurroundsImmediately to the south of the allotments lies the Covie commonage – some 750 Ha of state owned land. This fynbos and forest covered area is undeveloped and unused. At its coastal edge it borders on the narrow strip of Tsitsikamma National Park with its renowned Otter Trail which wends its way above the impressive coastal cliffs. To the east lies a forested ravine carrying the small klip river and to the west the commonage abuts onto the Da Vasselot reserve, which is part of the Tsitsikamma National park. Abutting the northern border of the Covie allotments is a large area of near pristine indigenous forest. |
RoadsThe R102 that passes close by forms part of the renowned Garden route. Here it passes through magnificent indigenous forest and winds through spectacular forest clad passes. The roads inside Covie are gravel and compliment the nature like environment that exists within Covie. |
