Natures Valley heading

Security Portfolio

The N.V.R.A security portfolio

Mission:

To maintain and monitor a safe environment for Nature's Valley properties and its residents and to report on safety aspects to all ratepayers on an ongoing basis.

Objective

Long Term:
To minimize crime in Nature's Valley and develop an awareness for safety measures amongst all stakeholders.

Short Term:
To establish and implement a reliable, expandable, and cost effective security system, as soon as the "MID" by-law has been passed by the Bitou municipality and sufficient project start up funds has been raised.
To encourage all property owners to have radio linked alarm systems installed in their homes.
To encourage all ratepayers to support the forming of a "Municipal Improvement District"

Background

The deteriorating public safety security elsewhere in the country as well has spilled over into Nature's Valley.
Over the past months the criminal incidents in Natures Valley have shot up to reach an intolerable number.
Our beloved Valley has become a prime target to criminals.

Project Status

In order to implement a sustainable security system in Nature's Valley we have to establish a Municipal Improvement District for Nature's Valley.
The establishment of a M.I.D. has been delayed due to a hitch in the by-law model that Bitou was going to use as the basis for its own M.I.D. by-law.
In a meeting held on the 2nd of September 2004, at the Bitou council chambers,  Advocate Jan Koekemoer, the municipal manager for "Overstrand", who has  been running a successful M.I.D for a number of years, addressed council members and a few concerned parties on the implementation of a M.I.D. with the following outcome:
  • The new amended  by-law will be forwarded to Mr. Carl Matheus (Director corporate services) of Bitou by the end of September 2004.
  • Bitou will modify the by-law to suit its own purposes and submit it to Province before the end of 2004.

This page will be updated as soon as the status changes.
